ABM® NeuroMovement®
Applied brain plasticity - for development and well-being
Create new life trajectories by learning something new
The Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement®, is a movement based method that improves the brain’s capacity to change and learn. Children and adults using the method experience increased movement and cognitive abilities, pain reduction and enhanced vitality and wellbeing.
The method taps into neuroplastisity, the brains ability to adapt and grow through life. Gentle, pain-free movements are used as a context for providing optimal conditions for the brain to create new neural pathways, also called learning. The conditions in which the brain becomes a potent learner is by Anat Baniel termed "the 9 Essentials". You can learn to facilitate such conditions in all aspects of life, for the benefit of yourself, your child or another loved one facing challenges.
ABM® NeuroMovement® is especially helpful for people who suffer from chronic pain, stroke and brain injury survivors, children with special needs such as cerebral palsy and autism, and people experiencing age- or disease related balance and movement challenges. But the same method is also used for enhanced performance by professional musicians, athletes and others wanting to perform better and with less injury.
ABM® NeuroMovement® is not therapy, but it may have theraputic effects, as new learning replace old patterns that might have caused pain or limitations. It is a holistic method taking into account that life is a continuous process of learning.
"Life is a process. Improve the quality of the process and you improve the quality of life itself"
Ways of learning ABM® NeuroMovement®
Group Lessons
In a group lesson you are guided primarily with verbal instructions. You will be informed about the 9 Essentials and encouraged to use them as a guide for how you do your movements.
Group lessons are a good way to increase your ability to sense and observe yourself in a non-judgemental way, and become more aware your own thought- and movement patterns.
The movement lessons will help you connect you yourself, and a lot of people report that they feel more calm and grounded after the lessons. In a group one may also share experiences and open up for new perspective on own experiences.
If your suffer from ME or chronic fatigue, I recommend you to take private lessons where individual adaptation is easier, or consult with an ABM NeuroMovement practition before joining. The movements are very small and gentle, but it can still be a lot of work on the brain and nervous system. So small steps are recommended.
If you wish to join a group lesson, connect with me on Spond and you will be invited on the next course. You may also order a course for a group or a company, by contacting me.
Individual Lessons
In a 1:1 sessions, the lesson is 100% tailored to the individual. In NeuroMovement we call the client the student, as the aim of the lesson is to stimulate learning through a gentle movement experience.
The Student may be a few days old, 100 years or something in between. In addition to verbal cues, the ABM® NeuroMovement® practitioner will in a 1:1 lesson also use touch and gentle movements as cues for attention.
From the movements and the 9 essentials, the Student becomes more aware of their movements, and the unintentional tension connected to the movements done on "autopilot". This opens up for learning new movement and thought patterns that are more effective, and less limiting and straining.
At the moment, I am available for private lessons in Ålesund in the evening Tuesday- Thursday every other week, and in Barstadvik at daytime Mondays and Fridays. For other locations I schedule on request.
Intensives & Retreats
The most efficient way to create changes through learning, is to take 6-10 lessons within a time frame of 3-5 days. This is what we call an Intensive. And this is what I recommend for most children. I Retreat is an Intensive done in a quiet setting where the surroundings help the nervous system rest and integrate the changes
The effect of the intensive you may discover both during the intensive and up to 2-3 weeks after when the child is exploring the world having more and better movements available, or seem more alert and is quicker at learning new things.
For adults it is also smart to use this format if your life allows for it. It opens up for more changes quicker and might also help you integrate the changes in everyday life.
After an intensive I advise you to take it easy, and spend time on observing yourself. Do not get tempted to straight away do something more than you normally would just because you feel you move lighter and more free. Give yourself space and time to allow new neural pathways to slowly integrate, so that the changes get a chance to become the new "autopilot"
Me and my aim
I am easily moved. I learn at lot about myself when moving, and I think better when I move. I am interested in what moves in others, and the close connections between thinking and movements. We all have unconcious movement patterns, with or without a diagnosis. But we don't need to be stay limited by them. We can create new ones. I hope to support the creation of a movement where we don't put all our attention and energy into what is painful or not functioning, but instead create improvements for ourselves and society by creating new movements and movement patterns.
With a passion for unlocking their full potential, I employ gentle, innovative approaches to promote neuroplasticity and support each child’s unique developmental journey. Through personalised sessions, I aim to empower both children and their parents, fostering growth, mobility, and a brighter future.
As a dedicated Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® Practitioner, I specialise in creating transformative experiences for children with special needs, and for adults that are ready to take on a new perspective on learning as a mean for improved wellbeing.
